Liebster Award!!!!

Thank you so much Margaret at youngandrungry.com.  This was a blessing today because I was stumped on what to write about. The Liebster Award is an award given to new bloggers by other bloggers as a way to support and promote each other in growing their blogs.  It’s a great opportunity to build up some connections and maybe even make some new blogger friends and I am so excited to have been nominated.

The Rules:

1. Post your award to your blog.
2. Answer the questions that you were given from the person who nominated you.
3. Nominate a few new bloggers you’ve discovered.
4. Create 10 new questions for the nominees.
5. Thank the blogger who nominated you and post a link to their blog.

1. What inspired me to start a blog?
A movie. Julie and Julia which is about a lady who wants to start a blog and decides to cook her way through Julia Childs Mastering the art of French Cooking.  I have seriously watched that movie so many times I had to buy another copy.

2. When did I start running?
I never liked running.  When I joined the Army I was so horrible at running. After I ended my tour of duty I said I would never run again.  Then I joined the police department in Atlanta and got so tired of suspects running.  So I initially started to run then, however have been running races for three years.

3. What is something I have always been good at?
Making other people laugh.  I guess if I can't be happy I at least want to make others smile and laugh.

4. What are 5 things that bring me joy?
Ice cold Coke, my sons, making others happy, memories, Ambien (lol)

5. If you had to completely change the direction of your blog and could not talk about running or anything health related what would you write about?
   Probably my love of food.
6. What is the hardest thing to write about?
Once I can find an interesting topic, I can write forever, it is the initial topic that gives me the most grief.

7.What is the strangest and most embarrassing phase you have ever gone through?
I would have to say the high hair phase.  I used so much hairspray.  My hair was about two inches off my face and boardlike.  Sitting in front of a mirror with a hair dryer and hair spray.

8. What is the most spontaneous thing you've done?
Joined the Army I don't know what I was thinking, probably wasn't.
9.  What is something your followers don't know about you?
I hate the way I look.

10. How would you describe your personal style?
    I love simple plain cute.

My Nominations:

I am super new to blogging, like less than two months.  I enjoy reading everybody's blog.  If you want to answer the questions that would be great.

I hope everyone had a great weekend.

Friday Five

I had so much fun yesterday with Zachary watching these funny videos yesterday.  It gives me so much joy to see him laugh.  I am so blessed to have had such wonderful sons.  I know we all think that our kids are great, but mine really are!!!

1.  I am completely out of peanut butter, like I took a spatula and scraped every little bit out of the jar.  I am addicted to peanut butter.  I had to have half a bagel with plain butter.  The good side of this is I get to go to the grocery store which I love. This may be the size I move up to

2.  I am going to the new Whole Foods close to my house tomorrow and I am really excited because I have a rolling list of things I have been wanting to get.

3.  Have you heard of Coke rewards?  I have been entering the caps (most donated) into the system for a few months and have $30.00 already!!!!  I also have been entering my grocery store receipts into Ibotta and have $20.00.

4.  I am starting to take donations to make homeless blessing bags to pass out on Thanksgiving.  Memphis has a huge homeless population.  If you are interested email me at has2run@yahoo.com

5. We are carving pumpkins tonight which should be a lot of fun.  Hot apple cider and scary movies what a great way to end fall break!!!

What are your plans for the weekend?
Do you eat an obscene amount of peanut butter?
Do you participate in any rewards programs? Which ones?

The best cranberry orange scones EVER.

I made the perfect scones. I thought because they sound so fancy that it was going to be difficult.  Seriously they only took about 20 minutes.  I used to order the scones at Starbucks but they were kinda pricey and hit and miss on freshness.
I decided to make cranberry orange scones yesterday afternoon because they just sounded good.
The recipe called for baking powder, sugar, salt, orange zest, dried cranberries, butter (always),
heavy cream and flour.  Mix everything together.  In order to get the scone shape, you press the dough into a nine inch cake pan, and then divide it like pizza. These only needed to bake for ten minutes
They were soft, fluffy, perfection.  I will definitely be making these again. If I were to describe a scone to someone who has never tried one, it is a mildly sweet, biscuit like creation usually using a fruit to flavor it.
Yesterday I had a short run, 4 miles, I had planned on going further but it was way too hot. This weekend is supposed to be the last heat wave here in Memphis, we shall see.
This is pretty much my plan for the weekend.

Have you ever had a scone?
What are your plans for the weekend?
Is it still hot where you live?

The challenge starts today, weekend wrap up

.For years, I've been contemplating cooking through an entire cookbook within a year, however never really committed. Finally, I found a cookbook which I fell in love with and I am taking the plunge. So here it is

I saw this book and fell in love.  I already own the original America's test kitchen Family Cookbook, and every recipe I have made out of it is delicious.  Baking is my thing.

So the challenge 700 recipes in 365 days. Not impossible. This book contains savory items such as bread (duh), pizza, tarts, as well as sweets. My plan is to bake the cookies on days when I have group runs at our local running store Breakaway Running.  Runners love to eat=taste testers!!!!   I will be including photos of all my baked cooks and keeping a countdown.

Saturday started with a group run at 0600 hrs with Breakaway Running.  Breakaway running host free marathon training runs in preparation for the St. Jude's marathon in December.  I met up with some of my friends who run super fast. Twelve miles at an 8:45 pace.  I kept up with them for a few miles, however fell back because I really overdid it during the week.
I spent the rest of the day trying to stretch out some seriously tight legs muscles.

Later in the day I made some fresh corn on the cob and some cherry tomato soup.  The soup was delicious it had a very creamy texture and taste, however had no dairy. I made it using only orange and red cherry tomatoes, garlic, onion, olive oil, basil, salt and pepper.   It was so good.
I seriously didn't do anything on Sunday.  The weekends for me are not the same as most, because I pretty much do what I want when I want.  The only difference is getting Zachary up for school during the week which is easy. Zachary is seriously the easiest child to raise. He gets all A's in school all the time.  He is nothing like I was, which is a miracle.  I guess I got payback with my older two, lol.
